Working with a recruiter and working with a contract role can seem like the opposite of what you want to do while looking for work. But working contract allows you to get experience in a certain area and working with a recruiter will have someone on your team while you look for work. Just like NFL teams, when you’re working with a staffing agency, it’s a team effort to land the job offer. You’re the star quarterback and your recruiter is your coach helping you leverage your skills and experience! By the time you’re offered the contract, you’ll be feeling like a hall-of-famer.

Your recruiter will lift you up

When you’re working with a recruiter you’re working with someone who has your back and is going to push your resume through to the hiring manager. They want you to succeed just as much as you want to succeed. Recruiters work hard to get to know your strengths and skills so that they can properly market your resume to the client. On the flip side, a staffing agency’s sales team works with the client to know exactly what kind of candidate they’re looking for to better assist the recruiters.

When you get the interview

Your recruiter will be the first one to tell you about getting an interview. They’ll help you prepare and give you tips and tricks on how to nail the interview. If this is a client that they’ve worked with before, they’ll be able to give you a good idea of the kind of questions that will be asked.

When Your Recruiter is Honest With you

It can be hard to hear, but sometimes you just aren’t qualified for a position. This doesn’t negate your other skills or past experience by any means, but it does mean that particular position is out of reach. A recruiter is going to let you know up front if you’re not qualified for the role because they know exactly what the managers are looking for. The upside of this is that they will be able to see other positions that you are a fit for and work with you to find the role. The flip side of this is that if you are listening to your recruiter and you are qualified it means that your resume doesn’t support your talent and expertise. Your recruiter will be able to help you add that information to your resume so that you will be seen as a an appropriate candidate to the hiring manager.

When you finish your contract and your recruiter has another role ready for you

Just like a pick 6, getting another contract right after your current contract ends can seem impossible. But when you’re working hard for a recruiter they notice and they’ll work even harder to find another position that you can be placed in.

When you get the job offer

I said it early, but your recruiter wants you to succeed just as much as you want to. When the client sends the job offer, all your recruiter wants is for you to accept. Recruiters are in an industry of helping people and landing job offers is the big time goal.
